Tributes

  1. I just read this because Jonathan came to my mind as I was revising my mobile contacts. I met him more than 30 years ago and since I left Australia to come back home in Spain I never met him again. But I never forgot him. He was a very special person. Great to discuss about anything in life.
I met his sister Sarah. My condolences. I’m really sorry.

  2. We did not know your given names
For mum had Christened you Socrates
The philosophical person she met in Portarlington
Always greeted you and there was a somber energy about you, unlike the early memories people contribute here.
You sound like the kind of person people were lucky to know for you left them thinking and pondering about life.
The last time we saw you was not known to be the last.
You were iconic around town and that book nook is where you last resided.
We did not recognise the photo or name of the announcement...that was another Being.
This morning mum wanted to bring you flowers and I told her I would try and find your resting place.
She really enjoyed the regular brief encounters and seeing you smile or perhaps secretly laughing as to this little old lady who always greeted you.
May you be at peace wherever in the universe your spirit flies.

Condolences to the family and those who were blessed to know you (Socrates).

  4. Deepest sympathy to all of Jon's family and friends. As the eulogies made clear Jon was truly one of a kind, and had a unique impact on all who knew him. At his best a great dreamer and philosopher and that's how we will remember him.

  7. The people with the big personalities always make the biggest impression, and from a very young age, Jonathan made an outsized impression on me. Apart from some school reunions I barely saw him over the last 20 years, but I feel like he's sitting here with me now, pulling a cork; just getting started. A very sad day. My condolences to Jonathan's family and friends.

  9. Condolences to Sarah and Simon and families from Ian Cuming and the Cuming family. My memories of Jon from Yarra Valley, Ringwood and Donvale include making blackberry huts, catching snakes and going to the footy among other things. You were so talented, creative and charismatic and always wild and untameable.

Home safe now. Blessings all. Love. Gratitude.

  11. Kindest wishes to Jon's siblings, extended family and friends.
So sad to hear of Jonathan's passing. whilst I didn't see much of him in past years, my memories of him, especially Uni days, are of an amusing, intelligent, energetic, feisty debater. Still makes me smile with fondness. Rest peacefully now Jon.

  14. Lovely photo. I remember many things about Jonathan - his hat, cigarette in hand, a smile and always ready to debate the big tickets items in life. Thank you for hospitality you provide in Euroa, Jonathan. I remember them fondly. Go gently.

I didn't know Jonathan very well but I felt him to be a highly intelligent and sensitive person.
I can still picture him having a dance in the backyard at Deb's house :)
